And we actually went over these five questions. Question number one, will you be signing the tax return as prepared? all licensed tax preparers should be signing the tax return because that then assigns the legal responsibility to the person that you paid at your tax return. At Coopers Accounting Service, we always sign the tax returns. Question number two.

How do you charge your fee and how much will it cost? Typically, most firms fees are based upon fee schedules or they’re based upon hourly rates. We at Cooper’s accounting service primarily charge based upon fee schedules. Question number three, are you open and available year round? Most medium to larger firms are available year round.

There are some companies that are seasonal companies and they only open during tax season. We at Cooper’s Accounting Service, we are open year round. Question number four, if someone from the state of IRS contacts me regarding my tax return, will you be available to assist me? Most professional companies, once you sign for representation, they should be able to represent you.

You may have to sign some legal paperwork, but they will contact the IRS or what state government body that you have. We at Cooper’s Accounting Service, we represent you at no cost regarding the state or the IRS. Number five, a PTN number? A PTN number, that stands for Preparer Tax Identification Number.

You may request that when a person preparing your tax returns. it shows that the person is licensed and registered with the IRS. Once again, as I was concluding with this client, we were just talking about the comfort level that they should have with us representing them as they new tax person.

You should get a feel and a comfort level to whomever you work with. This is a trusted advisor and you should look at this person as someone that you feel confident and comfortable with asking any and all questions.
